will re-read but look forward to more treasure tomorrow

...gratitude today is electric lights and the electricity to run them

...doubtless owe gratitude to multitude who remain nameless to me because without them there would be almost no light here today

- soft gray cloud cover seems like would have nice ability to get light here but is almost like twilight and it is barely noon here.

things merely looked damp till I started to go somewhere - slick, thin, very not good to walk in so I turned right around, sprinkled some hopefully safe for walks and pets ice melt - looks like I am inside till later today

my ice skating skills are many years and pounds rusty - figured was not a good time to try them...especially with @ton+ car

at one point in my life I would be gleefully sliding and skating upon them, today I was grateful just to walk with ice melt to Nola'a and and back safely.

Usually I would be telling grandkids (not here today) to turn off the lights as they leave rooms behind them...today I purposely went from kitchen to piano room to TV room grateful for being able to add light to all of them

...grateful it has been so long since it has been this oppressively dark during the day I had forgotten we ever had them :)

guess if I hadn't had lights I would have had to pop popcorn and pretend I was camping around chimenea candle light.

instead I made an onion and sweet pepper sandwich on the last of the loaf of bread...if I want anything more I am going to have to brave going out to the car - where part of a loaf of Pam's scratch made corn bread and part of her scratch carefully selected ingredients loaf of wheat bread wait for me...

mmm wonder if I have any makings on hand for chili.

Since Pam opened her restaurant last week I had planned on eating there several times during the week...have things on hand mainly for my little grandson fruit bat.

Pam reintroduced me to fresh thin onion slices on a sandwich when I ordered her oat patty sandwich

...which comes with large perfect tasting greens and veggies salad with home made dressing

, and two choices of sides - so many good ones,

curried fresh veggies,

seasoned fresh green beans,

sauteed cabbage,

baked sweet potato with agave and fresh pineapple

and barbecued beans of various types

are the ones I have tried so far...

and they all beckon to me because the weather warning says the ice should clear by 3P

in the meantime I found a jar of artichokes to add to the nearly empty jar of sweet peppers and a fresh onion and did have a pretty good sandwich (would have tasted even better with one of her oat patties - oh well, grateful I had something to eat that was pretty tasty - would have sliced those onions even thinner - will try to next time.

Sitting here feeling kind of bummed out by the black ice conditions out there...

I suddenly had the fun of remembering another day of even more ice on the walks (though not as slick as it seems to be today fortunately)...

four of us ladies had gotten into the habit of occasionally declaring a luncheon party and there was supposed to be one at my house that day

I did make it across my driveway to Nola's next door and debated whether to cancel or to wait it out till a bit later before deciding.

After a few cups of coffee with Nola, I ventured back outside and again made it safely back to my house which fortunately is just across our joined together driveways - to continue lunch preparations (dried beef gravy, toast, baked potato, figured I could take lunch to them even if we couldn't get together

I don't remember the rest of the menu - lots of good things undoubtedly - seem to somewhat remember eating some of Nola's delicious fudge (my favorite) and bet she also had her delicious homemade cookies

(that sandwich was good but can you tell, I am still hungry...just remembered I also bought fudge when I bought the fruit the other day...left it in the car for a treat emergency)

ok I am grabbing my car key!

...but first back to the story

suddenly a brain storm hit...figure it was one of those ideas we sometimes get help with, certainly wasn't anything brilliant in me.

I had a long plastic sled/toboggan...perhaps we could make it into a sleigh (one neighbor is in her 90's and the other two are in their 80's somewhere and one of them is not too health and walking stable)....

the footing was secure enough I figured it was ok for me...but was concerned about the others falling....

well it wasn't long before we tried it out - sled and footstool from here and small rug mat from Nola's ...neighbor and her family raced over to help .... they raced over because they were their loved, now somewhat acting like crazy giant risk taking, old ladies, were going to fall, breaking into many parts...

(Nola and I wouldn't have really taken them if the sleigh hadn't tested out sturdy and stable as we tested it out...instead it tested out as a whole lot of fun to be had)

they ended up pulling us on the sleigh that day - up and down our pretty strait and level sidewalks, unlike the downhill careening we often associate with sledding as a kid...far more possibilities than we started out life with

up and down the street just for the heck of it and then delivering each one to my house for the party....they then returned after the party to sleigh ride each one home

(we invited them but they were already visiting together as a family)

instead of a bleak Winter storm that kept us inside unable to play - thanks to the toboggan sled and lots of people, we all have a super fun memory of Winter Fun and Festivities that day...

Irma's eyes at 96 still light up when we talk of that day, and so do I

Actually, none of us seemed even close to appearing immediately ready to break every bone in our body

- at least from the view where we were sitting and pushing...

but these neighbors were both nurses and long time friends of Irma's and have been ever so tenderly watchful over her, even as she had been lovingly watchful when she watched over their children growing up...

- and they in turn, had tucked the rest of us in their hearts as well...

From view across the street and a nurse's mind, Mary's mind immediatly filled in with "what ifs" and took action to make sure those what ifs didn't happen...

...causing them to race with their grown family (complete with cameras)-

- despite much teasing by Irma over the years the pictures are still in digital cameras down south somewhere - perhaps one day we will have pictures and movies to go along with the stories - but if not we still have delightful memories around here)

Joan, I remember when you intrepid ladies had this adventure!
It was such fun to read all about it again. I sure hope others got to read it, too. It was very entertaining. Thank you.
